The total volume of global data storage is expected to exceed 200 zettabytes next year, according to market researcher Cybersecurity Ventures. That includes data stored on private and public IT infrastructures, utility infrastructures, private and public cloud data centers, personal computing devices and IoT devices.
CRN reports that businesses, meanwhile, are increasingly seeing data as a valuable asset – not just something to be processed – that must be effectively stored so that it’s both secure and easily accessible when needed.
These trends are driving innovation in the data storage space – and much of that is coming from startups with new data storage technologies and concepts.
