Remembering Kevin Mitnick, The World’s Most Famous Hacker

Kevin Mitnick, who was widely known as the world’s most famous hacker, passed away on Jul. 16, 2023. The cybersecurity legend is gone but he’ll never be forgotten.

In a new Cybercrime Magazine Podcast episode released Jul. 16, 2025, the two-year anniversary of Mitnick’s passing, host Paul John Spaulding interviews Scott Schober, cybersecurity expert, inventor, and author, who shares a special day when he went one-on-one with the hacking icon for three hours at a bar reminiscing over beers and laughs.

Spaulding has his own memories of Mitnick, when the showman visited Cybercrime Magazine’s HQ and studios to record five original videos covering his favorite hack, his first social engineering stunt, his time on the run from the FBI, and how he pulled off a prison hack while in solitary confinement.
