OpenAI is building a tool that will allow you to create your own AI Agents.
AI startups are convinced AI agents are the future and OpenAI’s AI Builder could be the Visual Studio moment for building agentic experiences.
As spotted on X, OpenAI Agent Builder has a flowchart where you drop small blocks (called nodes) and connect them with arrows.
Each node does one job, and the arrows show the order of steps. You can start from a template like “Customer service,” “Data enrichment,” or “Document comparison,” or click Create to start blank.
As per the leaked screenshots, templates give you a ready layout you can edit.
All of the nodes are connected to an Agent with your rules. You can choose a model, customize the prompt, and more. You can also set “Reasoning effort” and the output format (text or JSON). Agents can use tools.
AI Builder will also support MCP. With MPC, you add connectors such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, and Dropbox
After you add a connector, your agent can call that service inside the flow (for example, read a file, fetch a calendar event, or draft a reply), depending on what the connector allows.
OpenAI will be sharing more details during the DevDay conference later today.
