The Brida security testing toolkit has released version 0.6, marking a significant update that brings full compatibility with the latest Frida dynamic instrumentation framework.
This new release addresses critical compatibility gaps that emerged after Frida’s major overhaul in May 2025, restoring comprehensive functionality for security researchers and penetration testers working with Burp Suite.
Adapting to Frida’s Major Architectural Changes
Earlier this year, the Frida development team introduced breaking changes that removed Java, Objective-C, and Swift runtime bridges from Frida’s GumJS runtime, alongside refactoring numerous JavaScript APIs.
These modifications significantly impacted Brida and other Frida-based tools that relied on the removed functionality.
The Brida team, led by Federico Dotta and collaborating with Ole André Vadla Ravnås’s team at NowSecure, invested considerable effort to redesign Brida’s core operations and ensure seamless integration with Frida 17.3.2 and frida-compile 19.0.4.
This comprehensive rework demonstrates the technical complexity involved in maintaining compatibility across evolving security frameworks while preserving the toolset’s effectiveness for mobile security testing.
Version 0.6 introduces several important enhancements beyond compatibility fixes. The release features a major JavaScript code refactor that aligns with Frida’s current architecture, improved kill server functionality for modern Java versions, and enhanced connection modes including Host:Port and DeviceId options for Frida integration.
Additional improvements include a new JavaScript bypass for OkHttpHostname verification, a Gradle build configuration file, and refined Android root detection scripts. The development team also updated comprehensive documentation in the project wiki and resolved numerous reported issues.
One tradeoff involves version constraints. Brida 0.6 no longer supports Frida versions prior to 17, which reflects the significant architectural changes.
The development team acknowledged that maintaining backward compatibility would limit functionality improvements.
For users who require compatibility with older Frida versions due to device-specific constraints, the team provides Brida 0.6pre, which works with frida-compile 10.2.5 and earlier Frida versions before 17.
This approach acknowledges a common challenge in mobile security testing where specific Frida versions may work reliably only on particular devices, necessitating flexible version management strategies.
The new release is currently available through the Brida GitHub repository. The development team has submitted version 0.6 to the Burp Suite team for inclusion in the BApp Store, though the approval process typically requires several weeks.
Users can access the release immediately from GitHub while awaiting official BApp Store availability.
