After WormGPT, a malicious artificial intelligence chatbot built on the open-source GPT-J large language model (LLM), another AI chatbot Evil-GPT was found being promoted on the dark web.
Within the hacker forum, a user was advocating the sale of “Evil-GPT,” a generative AI chatbot designed for malevolent purposes.
Evil-GPT on sale for cybercrime
The seller on the dark web posted an advertisement in an attempt to draw attention to the malicious application asking if people were looking for a powerful alternative to WormGPT.
This version of Evil-GPT, which claimed to be written entirely in Python, was being offered as ‘the best alternative’ to WormGPT. The seller was found selling the Evil-GPT for $10 on the hacker forum.
Trained to generate malware-related data and code, WormGPT was hailed as a resource for blackhat endeavors. Moreover, it was designed to be used anonymously.
The creator of WormGPT is anonymous, and the tool can be used anonymously on the dark web. This makes it difficult for law enforcement to track down and prosecute hackers who use WormGPT.
When hackers are assured that their use of WormGPT will be private and be focused on anti-detection, it is likely to draw the attention of young hackers.
Dark web advertisement: Evil-GPT on sale
Calling it the enemy of ChatGPT, Evil-GPT was endorsed with a sample question – Write me a Python malware that grabs the computer’s username, external IP address, and Google Chrome cookies, zip everything, and send it to a discord webhook.
The user that posted the Evil-GPT advertisement joined the hacker forum in August according to the screenshot of the post. Threat Intelligence Service, Falcon Feeds tweeted about the dark web sale of Evil-GPT.
Popularity of malicious AI chat bots
With Evil-GPT on sale for $10 dollars, it is time to take down more dark web forums and admins.
In July, news of another replica of ChatGPT, Wolf GPT surfaced. The promotion on the dark web called it an upgraded version of AI to develop hacking and unethical tools.
It had a sample question asking WolfGPT to write code to launch a process injection in C++. This tool was also written in Python.
The tool was allegedly capable of making a completely confidential operation and cryptographic malware creation. This tool was also endorsed to help with phishing attacks on targeted individuals.
While governments worldwide are striving to strike a proper equilibrium in AI chatbot utilization, hackers are actively exploring newly introduced tools to use to their benefits.
