Threat actor group Anonymous Sudan has claimed responsibility for the chain of cyberattacks that occurred in the past few days on Swedish healthcare infrastructure. The group also claimed cyberattacks on the infrastructures of educational institutions in Sweden.
The claim comes days after the threat group listed several major and minor airports in Sweden as their victims.
The recent post on the hacker collective’s Telegram page boasts of attacking Sweden’s health sector in the future. The Sudan-based group said that the reason behind the string of cyberattacks was the recent activities in Sweden and the Netherlands, which hurt their religious sentiments.

“On Friday afternoon, the Västra Götaland region (VGR) was subjected to a denial-of-service attack that resulted in several external web services – such as 1177.se, vgregion.se and hospital websites – being difficult to reach. The problems are now solved,” said a press release from NU-sjukvården.
The Cyber Express reached out to some of the healthcare providers listed in the post, but most of them are yet to reply.
“In Region Västra Götaland, where NU-sjukvården runs two out of many hospitals, we were suffering an attack on our IT systems Friday-Saturday. We were one of several regions in Sweden that were affected,” Thomas Schulz Rohm, NU-sjukvården press secretary for the Västra Götaland region, told The Cyber Express.
However, he did not specify the details of the attack or whether there was ransom involved.
The Cyber Express team found that some of the websites were accessible while others were not. However, the inaccessibility could also be due to technical issues.

Anonymous Sudan is known to launch distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks to disrupt the normal functioning and services that are reliant on the network and systems. A subclass of denial-of-service attacks, DDoS attacks sends a flood of traffic that makes the network temporarily available hindering services.
