Anthropic Unveils Claude for Healthcare

Anthropic has launched Claude for Healthcare, a new set of tools designed to help doctors, insurance companies, and patients use artificial intelligence for medical purposes while meeting strict privacy regulations.

The announcement represents a significant expansion of Claude’s capabilities in the Healthcare and life sciences sectors.

The platform introduces several connectors that allow Claude to access important healthcare information sources.

These include the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Coverage Database, which helps verify insurance coverage and process prior authorization requests.

Claude can also now connect to the ICD-10 disease classification system used for medical coding and billing, as well as the National Provider Identifier Registry for healthcare provider verification.

Healthcare organizations can use the Claude Pro or Enterprise versions to connect to additional resources, such as PubMed, providing access to over 35 million pieces of medical research literature.

Claude for Healthcare can speed up administrative work that currently burdens healthcare providers.

The system can review prior authorization requests by checking coverage requirements, patient records, and clinical guidelines, simultaneously working that typically takes hours to complete manually.

It can also help build stronger insurance claims appeals and assist care teams in sorting through patient messages to identify urgent cases.

For patients, Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States can now securely connect their health records from apps like Apple Health and Android Health Connect.

Claude can then summarize medical history, explain test results in simple language, and help patients prepare questions for doctor appointments.

Expanded Life Sciences Capabilities

Anthropic also announced expanded tools for life sciences researchers.

Platform / Database Type Purpose / Description
Medidata Clinical trial platform Clinical trial data and performance metrics for trial planning and feasibility.
ClinicalTrials.gov Clinical trial registry Registry of clinical studies for drug/device development, recruitment, and protocol insights.
bioRxiv Scientific preprint server Access to biological research preprints before formal publication.
medRxiv Scientific preprint server Access to medical research preprints prior to peer-reviewed publication.
ChEMBL Bioactive compound database Repository of bioactive drug-like small molecules for research and discovery workflows.

These connections enable researchers to draft clinical trial protocols, track enrollment progress, and prepare regulatory submissions more efficiently.

The company emphasized that privacy remains a core design principle. Users control exactly which information they share with Claude, and health data will not be used to train AI models.

The system includes disclaimers about its limitations and directs users to healthcare professionals for personalized medical advice.

Claude for Healthcare is available to all Claude subscribers across Pro, Max, Teams, and Enterprise plans.
