Biden hosts an AI Forum in San Francisco

As an initial step, the United States leader recently hosted a forum in San Francisco to address issues related to AI development and explore ways in which it can contribute to economic growth while ensuring the well-being and safety of humanity.

President Joe Biden engaged in discussions with experts from universities and advocacy groups to identify potential risks associated with the parallel advancement of AI technology.

While the sector has experienced a significant increase in investment, thanks in part to the creation of conversational Chatbot ChatGPT, two main concerns have arisen. Firstly, there is apprehension that AI has the potential to replace jobs. Secondly, the automation aspect of AI technology raises concerns about the potential for misuse, such as election interference or the spread of disinformation through the creation of false images and deepfake videos.

It is noteworthy that Biden’s stance aligns with that of other technology leaders, including Elon Musk, who have warned about the immense dangers AI poses to humanity. In May of this year, the democratic president held a thoughtful discussion with tech CEOs at the White House on how to prevent the misuse of AI.

The San Francisco forum focused on formulating a set of actions regarding AI that the federal government can take, as well as seeking commitments from private companies to use the technology responsibly, without compromising national security and the well-being of the population.

Interestingly, President Biden’s visit to San Francisco coincided with his efforts to raise funds for his 2024 reelection campaign. Notably, the event was supported by Kevin Scott, the CTO and Executive President for AI at Microsoft.
