ChatGPT Deep Research Now Integrates with Dropbox and OneDrive to Retrieve Data

ChatGPT has rolled out a beta feature called Deep Research Connectors, designed to integrate seamlessly with third-party applications such as Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, GitHub, Microsoft SharePoint, and Box.

Announced this week, this feature enables users to access and analyze live data from these platforms directly within ChatGPT’s interface, eliminating the need to toggle between multiple apps or tabs.

This integration is particularly transformative for users who rely on real-time data retrieval from cloud storage or code repositories, as it streamlines workflows by embedding search and analysis functionalities into a single platform.

Connectivity for Enhanced Research

The Deep Research feature operates by allowing ChatGPT to send keyword-based search queries to connected apps, fetching relevant content such as documents, code snippets, or presentations for immediate analysis.

For instance, users can query specific files like “Show me the latest customer feedback deck” to pull data from Dropbox or SharePoint, or ask “Where’s the backend logic for image uploads?” to search a GitHub repository.

Once retrieved, ChatGPT processes and cites the content in real time, ensuring that the information is both current and contextually relevant.

Importantly, the system adheres to strict privacy protocols data is not synced or stored permanently by ChatGPT, and access remains governed by the permissions and visibility settings of the third-party services.

Users must explicitly grant consent for content access during the connection process, and administrators in organizational settings may need to provide additional approval to comply with security policies.

Robust Privacy Controls

This beta rollout offers varying levels of access based on subscription plans, with connectors available to Plus, Pro, and Team users for most services, while Edu and Enterprise plans are slated to receive these integrations soon.

However, regional restrictions apply users in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the UK may not yet access certain connectors like Dropbox or OneDrive due to regulatory considerations.

To connect an app, users can navigate to the Deep Research option in ChatGPT’s composer, select a data source, sign in, and specify accessible content via permissions.

According to OpenAI Report, these connections can be managed at any time through the Settings menu under Connected Apps.
