The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has warned about four critical vulnerabilities currently being exploited in the wild.
These vulnerabilities affect various products, from routers to software platforms, posing significant risks to users worldwide.
The vulnerabilities have been identified in D-Link, DrayTek, Motion Spell, and SAP products.
CVE-2023-25280: D-Link DIR-820 Router OS Command Injection Vulnerability
The first vulnerability, CVE-2023-25280, affects the D-Link DIR-820 router. This OS command injection flaw allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to escalate privileges to root by exploiting the ping_addr parameter in the ping.ccp component.
Although there is no confirmed link to ransomware campaigns, the potential for misuse is significant.
The impacted product has reached its end-of-life (EoL) and end-of-service (EoS), prompting CISA to recommend users discontinue its use immediately.
CVE-2020-15415: DrayTek Multiple Vigor Routers OS Command Injection Vulnerability
Another critical vulnerability, CVE-2020-15415, impacts DrayTek’s Vigor3900, Vigor2960, and Vigor300B routers. This flaw involves an OS command injection vulnerability in the cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi/cvmcfgupload component.
It allows remote code execution through shell metacharacters in a filename when using the text/x-python-script content type.
Users are advised to apply mitigations as per vendor instructions or discontinue use if no mitigations are available. The exploitation of this vulnerability in ransomware campaigns remains unknown.
CVE-2021-4043: Motion Spell GPAC Null Pointer Dereference Vulnerability
The third vulnerability, CVE-2021-4043, is found in Motion Spell’s GPAC software. This null pointer dereference vulnerability could enable a local attacker to trigger a denial-of-service (DoS) condition.
While no evidence links this vulnerability to ransomware activities, it remains a concern for users relying on GPAC for media processing tasks. CISA advises applying vendor-recommended mitigations or discontinuing use if necessary.
CVE-2019-0344: SAP Commerce Cloud Deserialization of Untrusted Data Vulnerability
Finally, CVE-2019-0344 affects SAP Commerce Cloud (formerly Hybris). This deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability exists within the mediaconversion and virtualjdbc extensions, allowing for potential code injection attacks.
As with the other vulnerabilities, they are not known to be associated with ransomware campaigns. Users should follow vendor instructions for mitigation or cease using the affected components.
Urgent Action Required
CISA’s advisory underscores the urgency of addressing these vulnerabilities by October 21, 2024. Organizations and individuals using these products must take immediate action to protect their systems from potential exploitation.
The agency recommends applying available patches or mitigations and discontinuing use where necessary.
