Anonymous Sudan has claimed responsibility for a Cloudflare cyberattack, utilizing the Skynet and Godzilla botnets. Although the attempt to breach the cybersecurity provider was bold, initial evaluations suggest that Cloudflare’s services experienced negligible disruption.
The hacker group, in a statement accompanying their claim of the Cloudflare cyberattack on the dark web, asserted, “Companies using Cloudflare, they can’t even protect their main site, you think they can protect you?”
However, the claims of the cyberattack on Cloudflare remain unverified.
Earlier in the week, the same group had taken credit for a brief disruption of ChatGPT by attacking OpenAI’s website. Nonetheless, neither of the companies involved has issued an official statement about these incidents.
Unverified Reports of Cloudflare Cyberattack Spark Concerns
Following the reported cyberattack on Cloudflare, a flurry of tweets has erupted across social media, sparking speculation of a security compromise at the company.
A user on platform X posted, “AnonymousSudan Took Down @Cloudflare. 2 Botnets took down #Cloudflare I cannot believe.. #Update: Anonymous Sudan claims an attack on Cloudflare using Skynet and Godzilla Botnet. Why is no one talking or making reports for these kinds of power attacks?”
Another user contributed to the discourse, stating, “BREAKING: Cloudflare website hit by DDoS attack claimed by Anonymous Sudan. 😱 Investigating an ongoing outage causing ‘We’re sorry” Google errors. Get all the details on this major cyberattack 👉.”
Another tweet added to the unfolding narrative, “What a Friday! 🔥- #Cloudflare ongoing issues, impacting who knows how much of the internet. – #Github issues. – Nationwide bank deposit delays. – #MrCooper (one of the largest mortgage companies in the US) under cyberattack and locked down.”
In response to these claims, The Cyber Express Team sought to verify the situation by reaching out to Cloudflare officials. However, Cloudflare is yet to provide an official statement regarding the alleged cyberattack. Additionally, Cloudflare’s official website appeared to be operating normally.
While the cyberattack on Cloudflare did not cause widespread disruptions, the global digital community remains vigilant as new details emerge regarding the motivation and tactics employed by Anonymous Sudan.
Double Trouble: ChatGPT Targeted in Coordinated Attack
Anonymous Sudan had also claimed to have succeeded in briefly disrupting the desktop service of ChatGPT. They asserted to have initiated a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack targeting the login portal of OpenAI.
This event sparked a range of responses online, as a considerable number of users flocked to platform X to report issues they faced while attempting to access their ChatGPT accounts. These comments suggested the possibility of a ChatGPT cyberattack, but we cannot draw a definitive conclusion until an official response confirms the incident.
The group’s statements, particularly their challenge to Cloudflare’s capability to protect its clients, seem to aim at undermining confidence in the cybersecurity measures of prominent tech companies. This rhetoric suggests a motive beyond mere disruption, possibly aiming to expose perceived vulnerabilities in these organizations and challenge their reputational integrity.
Moreover, Anonymous Sudan’s claims of cyberattacks on Cloudflare and OpenAI’s ChatGPT portray a group seeking to establish a reputation for high-profile disruptions. However, the lack of official confirmation and the reported limited impact of these attacks cast doubts on their actual capabilities.
