Cyber Army Of Russia Reborn Seeks Admin For Dark Web Chat

Cyber Army of Russia Reborn, the cybercriminal group, was found advertising an open position in their team. The hackers, understandably affiliated with Russia, have been looking to hire a chat admin or moderator for their group.

However, the advertisement for the position of an admin for dark web chat was endorsed openly, which perplexed cybersecurity experts.

Other announcements similar to the one pertaining to the recruitment in the Cyber Army of Russia Reborn were made discreetly, researchers argued.

“We are a team with a serious approach and full vetting,” read the Cyber Army of Russia Reborn’s recruitment post. The vetting process suggested that those looking to apply for the position of admin for dark web chats would be scanned for affiliations with specific nations, skills, and backgrounds that should not affect their motives.

The statement, “Anonymity is further addressed… Selection is tough,” mentioned in the announcement for the position of admin for dark web chat that the Cyber Army of Russia reborn posted would create a sense of safety for participants.

Addressing the team of the Cyber Army of Russia reborn, a report by the Atlantic Council read, “Russia has attempted to replicate Ukraine’s IT Army initiative with what they have called the Cyber Army of Russia reborn, but this is believed to have attracted fewer international recruits.”

The ongoing Israel-Hamas war and other conflicts likely led to a surge in messages related to rants, intelligence, tips, etc., on the dark web portals of hackers. To handle the increased messages, it is likely, that the Cyber Army of Russia Reborn came forward with the job announcement of an admin for dark web chats.

While the Ukraine and Russia war continues and the recent Hamas attacks on Israel, hacktivist groups besides cybercriminals have been picking sides, and launching DDoS attacks to show solidarity with a warring nation they support. Although DDoS attacks do not often lead to a data breach, they may slow down systems or crash them leading to halting services that rely on them.

The Cyber Army of Russia Reborn was found taking votes to finalize their next target for cyberattacks. Conflicts between nations and other geopolitical situations have often been named as the reason behind cyberattacks launched by hacktivists.

Some hacktivists have pledged to follow the first-of-its-kind rules of engagement noted in the Geneva Code of Cyber-War issued by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

One of the rules stated that hospitals or humanitarian relief organizations must not be targeted. These guidelines were openly accepted by hackers including those from the Killnet group.

However, the application of the same is clouded in doubts as hackers also follow their own mission to support specific causes.
