Cyber Attack news headlines trending on Google


The Washington State Transportation website and its mobile app experienced a disruption due to a sophisticated cyber attack earlier this week. According to information shared on the X, WSDOT ferry vessel watch social media platform, both online freight services and travel maps were affected. The Federal agency is actively working on restoring these services and has committed to providing more information once their investigation is complete.

In a separate incident, the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD fell victim to a suspected cyber attack involving file-encrypting malware. In response, the Harris Center took precautionary measures by temporarily shutting down its network, impacting both staff and patient care. Collaborative efforts between Harris County Information Technology and the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are underway to thoroughly investigate the cyber incident.

The Government of Maine recently disclosed that it was targeted by a ransomware attack in May, affecting millions of individuals whose personal data was accessed by hackers. The breach was attributed to a vulnerability in the MoveIT file transfer system, impacting various systems related to education, health and human services, as well as the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Maine Department of Corrections. Approximately 1.3 million residents were deeply affected by this security breach.

Kyocera, an American electronics manufacturer, has begun notifying over 39,000 individuals impacted by a ransomware attack that occurred between February and March of this year. The company identified the digital attack in October 2023 and has taken necessary steps to mitigate risks. Kyocera AVX Components Corporation (KAVX) revealed that the LockBit Ransomware attack may have exposed sensitive information, including social security numbers and full names of employees. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but it is speculated that the hackers may intend to use the stolen data for threats, coercion, or for profit through illicit sales.
