To strengthen Malaysia’s cybersecurity infrastructure, Group-IB, a leader in cybersecurity technologies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CyberSecurity Malaysia. This collaboration aims to establish a strong framework designed to enhance the nation’s cyber resilience, protect critical IT infrastructure, and safeguard national interests.
The MOU was formalized at the Cyber DSA 2024 event in Kuala Lumpur on August 6, 2024, in a ceremony attended by key representatives from both organizations and the Ministry of Digital Malaysia.
We are honoured to join forces with CyberSecurity Malaysia at a crucial juncture of Malaysia’s transformation towards a fully digital economy. Our partnership highlights our mutual dedication to combating cyber threats and bolstering Malaysia’s cybersecurity resilience, and Group-IB’s steadfast commitment to fighting cybercrime and strengthening cybersecurity for the businesses and citizens of Malaysia,” said Dmitry Volkov, CEO of Group-IB.
A Strategic Partnership With CyberSecurity Malaysia
The newly established partnership will focus on several critical areas to fortify Malaysia’s cybersecurity posture. The multifaceted framework includes:
- Information Sharing and Threat Intelligence: Both parties will engage in a regular and detailed exchange of cyber threat intelligence and incident reports. This proactive sharing of information aims to preempt potential threats and enable swift responses to cyber incidents.
- Technical Support and Vulnerability Assessments: Group-IB will provide technical support in conducting thorough vulnerability assessments and digital forensics. This will help identify and mitigate security gaps in critical IT infrastructure.
- Capacity Building and Training: Emphasizing the importance of human capital, the alliance will conduct extensive training programs focused on cybersecurity awareness and incident response. These initiatives aim to equip Malaysian cybersecurity professionals with the necessary skills to handle sophisticated cyber threats.
- Emergency Coordination Protocols: The framework includes developing and implementing emergency coordination protocols for a rapid response to cyber incidents. This coordinated approach will ensure minimal disruption and swift recovery from cyber attacks.
- Advocacy and Awareness: Raising cybersecurity awareness among businesses and the public is a key component of the partnership. Through advocacy efforts, the alliance aims to promote best practices and enhance the overall cybersecurity culture in Malaysia.
- Commercial Cyber Security Services for SMEs: Recognizing the unique challenges faced by Small-and-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the collaboration will offer specialized cyber security services tailored to their needs. This initiative aims to protect SMEs, which are often targeted by cybercriminals due to their perceived vulnerability.
- Access to Digital Crime Resistance Centers (DCRCs): Group-IB will provide access to its DCRCs, enabling rapid analysis and mitigation of regional cyber threats. This facility will enhance intelligence exchange and support joint operations against cybercrime in Malaysia.
The MOU was signed by Dmitry Volkov, CEO of Group-IB, and Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin bin Abdul Wahab FASc, CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia.
Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin bin Abdul Wahab FASc, CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia, expressed similar sentiments: “With this MoU between CyberSecurity Malaysia and Group-IB, we are united in the common goal of fortifying Malaysia’s cyber defences. This will be achieved through enhanced information sharing, technical support, and specialized training, while also focusing on swift emergency response.”
The InsureGuard Initiative
A standout aspect of the partnership is the “InsureGuard” Initiative, designed to offer specialized cyber protection for SMEs, government agencies, and large enterprises. This initiative will provide tailored solutions and comprehensive risk assessments, significantly bolstering Malaysia’s cybersecurity resilience.
“Through InsureGuard, we aim to shield a diverse range of organizations from evolving cyber threats by offering customized solutions that cater to their specific needs.
