Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, there’s a concerning development where the pro-Russian hacktivist group, Killnet, has raised the possibility of a cyberattack on the Israeli warhead site.
The group, known for launching DDoS attacks, has been discussing the potential of tampering with Israel’s nuclear weapons and control systems, envisioning the potential consequences.
“Is it possible to deactivate or activate a nuclear warhead site using a network attack?” read a Telegram message by Killnet. “We’ll find out about this a little later,” the message concluded.
Israeli Warhead Cyberattack Discussed by Killnet Group
Threat Intelligence platform Falcon Feeds tweeted a screenshot of messages exchanged over the Israeli warhead cyberattack. In Telegram messages by Killnet, they discussed the nuclear triad of Israel, which includes the United States of America, Russia, and China.
Killnet, a group notorious for its frequent targeting of organizations with DDoS attacks, has raised speculations concerning Israel’s nuclear warhead and its potential use of nuclear weapons in the midst of the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict.
The recent intensification of the Israel-Hamas conflict, which unfolded earlier this month, involved Hamas militants launching airstrikes resulting in casualties among Israeli civilians and the taking of over a hundred hostages, including infants.
Recent Activities of Killnet Group and Others
KillMilk, a member of the Killnet hacker group recently announced that they have a group of 10,000 members that they will use to attack the Western nations.
A group of 10k infiltrators speaks for the power of the hacking community likely based in Russia and their intentions of dismantling the digital infrastructure as far as they could. It also leaves speculations about the financial backing that allowed Killnet to hire 10,000 members who will likely paid based on successful malicious cyberattacks.
While Killnet was found speculating about the Israeli nuclear warhead cyberattack, they claim to have already launched a DDoS attack on the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) earlier this month.
Cybersecurity platform BetterCyber tweeted a screenshot of Killnet hackers’ dark web message boasting of disrupting CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. This draws attention to the increased targeting of nuclear power plants and research centers in the hands of Killnet and the grave risk it poses to digital assets and life at large.
Hackers have also gone ahead and altered the bomb alerts that are sent to subscribers by real-time rocket tracking applications in Israel. A hacktivist group, AnonGhost allegedly exploited a vulnerability in RedAlert that sends the bomb and rocket alerts to the people in Israel.
Users were sent false nuclear bomb alerts by exploiting the vulnerability in RedAlert, claimed AnonGhost, also in October 2023.
