Durex India, a se$ual wellness brand that sells condoms and intimate products has fallen prey to a cyber attack leaking sensitive details of its customers. Reckitt, the parent company of the Durex is all set to publish detailed information about the breach by next week and as it is busy investigating the incident now.
Leaked details include full names, contact numbers, email addresses, shipping addresses and product specifies related to the orders was fraudulent accessed by hackers. All because of a vulnerability on the order conformation page on Durex India website.
As the leaked details can be used against customers for identity thefts and money extortion, the company is planning to address the issue with technicality and will divulge more details on the issue on coming days.
Usually, the customers who order for intimate products online, anticipate at least basic level of security in protecting the information of users. However, Durex seems to have shown laxity in doing so and as a result its customers might face cyber threats in near future.
Now to those uninitiated, Durex is a British brand that used to offer personal lubrication products along with Contraceptives till the year 2007. But to bring down the production costs, the Latex brand leased out the services to Asian countries like China, Thailand and India.
In the year 2011, Trend Micro, a software firm invited Durex for cross industry promotional partnerships and both of them used common themes like security and anti-virus in a metamorphic way.
This surprised both the anti-malware solutions industry and the wellness sector to a great extent. However, the promotions were limited to Vietnam as both brands faced some backlash from the west like America and United Kingdom. Hence, forcing Reckitt withdraw the promotional campaigns and break off the tie.
