Flipper Zero – Now You Install 3rd-Party Apps

The Flipper Zero team has announced the official launch of “Flipper Apps,” a new app store enabling mobile users to download third-party apps and expand the capabilities of the well-known wireless pen-testing tool.

Flipper Zero is a little, toy-like multi-tool with the inquisitive viewpoint of a cyber-dolphin. It integrates all the hardware resources required for mobile exploration and development.

Using RFID emulation, digital access key cloning, radio communications, NFC, infrared, Bluetooth, and other techniques, pen-testers and hacking enthusiasts may experiment with various kinds of hardware with the help of Flipper Zero.

Particularly, Flipper Zero is used by more than 350,000 users to interact with wireless devices, including TVs, air conditioners, and IoT sensors, as well as access control systems like boom barriers, garage doors, and RFID card systems.

“With the launch of Flipper Apps, users can extend their devices’ functionality with custom applications,” said the Flipper Zero team.

The company said that apps may be installed on Flipper Zero using the mobile app. By creating a GitHub repository and submitting a pull request to the official codebase, any developer may build and apply to Flipper Apps.

Flipper Apps are written in C, the industry standard for embedded software that is also utilized in Arduino.

Flipper Devices offers developers extra tooling to help with development, debugging, and deployment.

Flipper Zero’s successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020 garnered almost $4.8 million. Over 350,000 consumers use flipper Zero to tinker, play, and work.

The tools’ documentation can be found in the official GitHub repositories.

“With the launch of Flipper Apps, we’re empowering users to customize their Flipper Zero by adding the features they need,” says Pavel Zhovner, Co-Founder and CEO of Flipper Devices.

“Although it was a significant challenge given our device’s energy-efficient hardware and lack of a full-fledged operation system, we are delighted to have achieved this. What’s more, it’s now available on all 350,000 devices we’ve ever sold.”
