Gov net-zero body spins up IT environment – Cloud

The federal government is building an independent cloud and IT environment for its recently launched energy transformation agency.

The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) currently shares its IT capabilities and resourcing with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

However, the agency is now building its own Microsoft Azure and M365 environment that it will manage itself.

NZEA has so far handed $2.1 million to IT service provider Digital61 to design, build and manage the cloud-based environments.

It is now in the process of transitioning to a new ICT operating model.

“The Net Zero Economy Authority commenced as an independent statutory authority… on December 11 2024,” a spokesman told iTnews in a statement.

“In line with standard machinery of government changes, the authority is establishing its own ICT and corporate functions to enable it to transition from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.”

The NZEA was established with the goal of driving energy transformation across Australia, including its regions, industries, and workforce.

Its responsibilities involve coordinating investments in emerging industries and facilitating worker transitions.
