Microsoft Teams is set to revolutionize workplace collaboration once again, rolling out a highly anticipated feature that enables users to add bots and agents directly within Chats and Channels, without disrupting their ongoing conversations.

The update, announced under Message ID MC1093236, marks a significant step towards a more fluid and productive Teams experience.

Starting in June 2025, a randomized subset of Teams users across Windows, Mac, and web platforms will begin to see a new “Agents and bots” side panel when engaging in Chats and Channels.

This enhancement allows users to seamlessly add agents or bots by simply selecting the people roster icon and choosing “Add agents and bots” from the menu.

The right-hand panel then opens, displaying available apps, agents, and bots—eliminating the need for disruptive pop-up windows or navigation away from the current conversation.

Previously, users faced an obstructive pop-up window when attempting to add agents or bots, often interrupting the flow of discussion and limiting the time available to make selections.

The new side panel approach ensures users maintain an unobstructed view of their ongoing chats, making it easier to collaborate and access support tools in real time.

“We received feedback that the current experience is obstructive and disrupts user flow, especially when they are in the middle of a Chat or Channel conversation,” the company explained in its official announcement.

The rollout is currently classified as an experiment, with Microsoft gathering data and feedback before a broader release.

Users can continue to add apps to a Tab in Teams by selecting the ‘+’ sign at the top of the Chat or Channel window—a feature that will remain available throughout the experimental phase.

No admin action is required for this update, but Microsoft recommends organizations notify users and update internal documentation accordingly.

The company promises to provide further documentation and details as the rollout progresses.
