New Hacker Claims Breach Of 1M Indonesians

A threat actor that goes by the name of Anonymous India has claimed to have breached the data of 1 million citizens of Indonesia.

In a tweet, FalconFeedsio shared a screenshot featuring the claim made by the hacker collective, stating that the “authenticity of the claim is yet to be assessed”. Moreover, it is yet to be verified whether the data is from multiple or a single source.

Verifying whether the data is from a single source or multiple sources is crucial. The damage may be limited to a single source, and only a few people might be affected. However, the consequences could be severe if the data is from multiple sources.

Anonymous India and the Rise of Anonymous subgroups

Recently, the rise of sub-Anonymous groups has taken the cybersecurity world by storm.

For example, Anonymous Sudan, a group of hackers with religious motivations, has been targeting multiple organizations and critical infrastructure in Sweden and Denmark since January 23, 2023, under the tags #OpSweden and #OpDenmark.

The group claims to be “hacktivists” protesting against Rasmus Paludan after the far-right politician and anti-Islam provocateur, lit the holy book of Qur’an on fire in Sweden on January 21, 2023.

Paludan, a dual Danish-Swedish national, had vowed to continue doing so until Sweden joins NATO.

In March 2023, Anonymous Sudan targeted medical facilities, universities, and airports in France over a cartoon depiction of the prophet Muhammad, allegedly referencing the controversial Charlie Hebdo caricatures.

The group also leaked sensitive information from various airlines and payment providers, claiming responsibility for hacking the organizations.

Anonymous India and the need to fix data breaches

Data breaches can have severe consequences for individuals and businesses. In 2023 alone, there have been 8 high-profile data breaches, including some of the biggest names in the business. The Yum Brands data breach, ChatGPT, Activision, and MailChimp are some names that experienced data breaches by prolific threat actors.

In these cases, personal information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses can be used for identity theft, fraud, and other criminal activities.

Moreover, if financial data is compromised, it can lead to financial losses for the individuals and businesses affected.

To avoid such situations, it is important to protect personal information. The first step is to use strong and unique passwords for all accounts.

It is also important to avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.

Additionally, keeping all software and applications up-to-date is essential to avoid vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit.

In conclusion, the news of a data breach by Anonymous India claiming to have breached data belonging to 1 million citizens of Indonesia is concerning. While the claim’s authenticity is yet to be assessed, it is important to take necessary steps to protect personal information.
