Parrot Security OS has unveiled its highly anticipated 7.0 beta release, marking a significant milestone with the integration of Debian 13 and a complete desktop environment overhaul.
The new version brings substantial stability improvements and modernized infrastructure designed to enhance both user experience and developer workflows.
The development team has invested considerable effort into reimagining Parrot’s foundation. Build scripts for ISO images and virtual machines now feature advanced automation capabilities, enabling weekly image production cycles.
This means users and developers will have access to regular, updated versions with minimal delays.
Core system components, including parrot-core, parrot-interface, calamares-settings-parrot, and parrot-themes, have received comprehensive upgrades.
Notable improvements include enhanced multi-Desktop Environment support and a complete rewrite of parrot-menu scripts from Nim to Go, delivering better performance and maintainability.

Parrot’s signature green-on-black terminal styling now extends across the entire operating system.
While the iconic logo and official ParrotOS services maintain their original colors, this design decision represents the team’s commitment to future modernization goals and brand consistency.
Parrot 7.0 fully embraces Debian 13, incorporating modern improvements that future-proof the system.
A key enhancement involves mounting the /tmp directory as tmpfs in RAM rather than disk storage, significantly boosting performance while reducing SSD wear.
As expected for temporary files, the data stored here will be cleared upon system reboot.
The update also introduces apt’s redesigned text interface, featuring colour-coded output, properly aligned columns, and a more straightforward presentation of dependency issues and package removals.
Parrot transitions from MATE to KDE as its primary and official desktop environment.
The switch acknowledges KDE’s substantial evolution, including Wayland support, Qt6 modernization, improved HiDPI/4K monitor handling, and enhanced system settings.
MATE will continue receiving community support, and migration guidance will be provided when Parrot 7 is officially released.
