The Australian Border Force (ABF) is dealing with an outage impacting its SmartGate kiosks for passengers travelling internationally.
The agency posted on X that it is “aware of a technical outage impacting SmartGate kiosks for outbound and inbound passengers at international airports nationwide today”.
Extra ABF officers have been brought in “to manually process passengers and provide as minimal disruption as possible”, it said.
“The issue is currently being rectified and systems are slowly returning online. We appreciate traveller’s patience as we continue to work through the issue,” the social media post stated.
In a statement to iTnews, an ABF spokesperson added: “We appreciate traveller’s patience as we continue to work through the issue.”
According to the ABC, there are lengthy queues at Sydney and Melbourne international airports while ABF officers manually process passengers.
Melbourne Airport said about 1000 travellers had been affected, the ABC reported.
