Microsoft issues hit M365, GitHub and Azure access – Cloud

Microsoft users are reporting widespread issues when trying to access M365, Azure, GitHub and other online services, with the vendor pointing to a “networking configuration issue” as the root cause.

The issues began to appear at just after 6pm AEDT (7am UTC).

A status advisory confirms that Teams, Exchange Online, Outlook, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, PowerBI, Microsoft 365 Admin Center and Microsoft Graph may be either degraded or inaccessible.

A separate advisory initially confirmed issues just with the Access Azure Portal, but with users reporting problems accessing a much larger set of Azure services, the warning was later expanded.

Another status advisory for GitHub points to “degraded performance” across multiple tools and services, including Actions, Codespaces, API Requests and Copilot.

Microsoft’s 365 status points to progress in addressing the problems.

“We’ve isolated the problem to a networking configuration issue, and we are analysing the best mitigation strategy to address it without causing additional impact,” Microsoft said.

The impact of the outage is global, with users in Oceania, Asia Pacific and further afield reporting problems.

The Azure service status dashboard was later updated to show networking issues being experienced in all regions, confirming the widespread reports.

iTnews’ own tests showed long load times for Exchange Online and Teams, though apps did eventually load and function.

Some users reported that the issues appear to be DNS-related, but there was no official confirmation of that from Microsoft at the time of publication.
