OpenAI, the renowned artificial intelligence research laboratory, has introduced a highly anticipated ChatGPT app for iOS users, enabling convenient access to its popular AI chatbot.

“With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we’re taking another step towards our mission by transforming state-of-the-art research into useful tools that empower people, while continuously making them more accessible,” OpenAI stated in their blog post.

At the time of writing, the ChatGPT app was only available in the United States. However, users from other regions should expect the app’s availability soon.

This move comes just days after eSentire’s Threat Response Unit (TRU) released a report on an ongoing BatLoader campaign infecting devices with malware disguised as fake ChatGPT and Midjourney apps.

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot, experienced exponential growth in popularity since its launch, captivating users from various backgrounds. Despite its initial experimental nature, ChatGPT quickly found a consumer audience, with estimations suggesting that it amassed around 100 million users by January this year.

OpenAI responded to this surge in interest by introducing a premium subscription plan called ChatGPT Plus, which provides enhanced features and utilizes the company’s state-of-the-art GPT-4 language model. As the app rollout progresses, OpenAI anticipates attracting users away from unofficial and potentially misleading versions available on mobile platforms.

The ChatGPT app incorporates OpenAI’s Whisper speech-recognition system, offering voice input capabilities. Additionally, subscribers to ChatGPT Plus gain exclusive access to the advanced GPT-4 model, enjoy faster response times, and receive early access to upcoming features.

OpenAI acknowledges the concerns surrounding privacy and the potential for fabricated information within the ChatGPT app. To address these issues, the company recently introduced the option for users to keep conversations private. While OpenAI continues to enhance the app’s safety features, it advises users not to share sensitive information through the platform.

While the ChatGPT app is currently available exclusively for iOS users, OpenAI assures Android users that they are next in line to experience the benefits of the app. Simultaneously, while the app is currently only being rolled out in the US, the company promises to expand it to other countries in the near future.
