The e-commerce platform has built Gemini models on Vertex AI to automatically scan and tag its product photos with in-depth metadata, which are used for identification by search engines.
Previously, The Iconic’s staff were required to manually tag imagery by hand for the 300 products each day.
The use of Gemini, alongside other open-source generative AI models, follows The Iconic’s adoption of Google Cloud BigQuery to build a data framework which is integrated with its Google Workspace application suite.
According to The Iconic the change has improved both employee productivity while also boosted the accuracy and speed of its search engines.
On the front-end, The Iconic’s use of generative AI has also improved customers’ speed and access to new products through improved search and recommendation.
“We have over 20 million monthly visits to our website and app,” he said in a statement,” said chief technology officer Adam Cox.
“These AI capabilities mark a major step forward in how we connect every single one of these customers to the products and styles that best suit them from our ever-expanding assortment, ultimately improving customer satisfaction and boom-line results.”
The Iconic is also developing the ability to recognise photos uploaded by a customer and then deliver products featured in the image.
