TPG Telecom recovers after data centre outage – Networking – Telco/ISP

TPG Telecom has attributed a widespread outage on Monday evening to a failure of mains and backup power at one of its data centres.

The impacted facility is understood to be the AAPT data centre in Forest Lodge in Sydney.

Customers nationwide, both consumer and business, reported connectivity issues from about 5.30pm AEDT, although the biggest impact was felt by users in NSW and the ACT.

The incident occurred hours after a severe storm in Sydney caused localised flash flooding and power outages across the city.

“A storm related power outage and generator failure at our Sydney data centre disrupted broadband services for our customers,” TPG Telecom wrote on Facebook.

TPG said in a post this morning that it had now restored “the vast majority of customer services.”

It advised any customers still experiencing issues to reboot their customer premises equipment.

NBN Co was last night forced to deny the issue lay with them, pointing people to TPG group websites for updates.

The wholesaler appeared to experience load problems with its status page during the TPG incident.

“We are aware that some customers are having difficulty accessing our network status page due to an unexpected surge in traffic on our website, which we are currently working to resolve,” it said at the time.
