NBN Co networks impacted by NSW storms – Networking – Telco/ISP

NBN Co is experiencing service outages across NSW following a spate of severe thunderstorms.

As of January 19, more than 36,500 premises were still impacted by network disruptions, four days after the wild weather first swept through the state.

iTnews understands that more than 219,000 premises have had their services restored across the state since the storms began on January 15.

In a statement to iTnews, NBN Co attributed the ongoing disruptions to “ongoing power outages”.

“Most NBN services across NSW that were affected by this week’s severe weather have now been restored following power returning,” a spokesperson said.

“However, some areas are still experiencing ongoing power outages that continue to impact NBN services.

“NBN Co is working closely with power networks to restore services to communities impacted by outages as quickly as it is safe to do so.”

The provider noted that some areas were still inaccessible “due to safety concerns, which may delay restoration efforts”.

In cases where users were experiencing outages, but none were reported on NBN Co’s website, users were advised to restart their equipment or reach out to their retail service provider (RSP).

As of January 19, Telstra’s website advised customers that “outages due to severe weather are affecting parts of [its] network in NSW”.

“We’re working to get everything back online ASAP,” the telco said.

According to Ausgrid, whose power network spans Sydney and the Hunter Valley, the recent storm left 100,000 homes without power on its network, the ABC reported.

Meanwhile, almost 30,000 on Essential Energy’s network also lost power immediately following the storm.
