Early each year, Detectify honors the top-performing ethical hackers within our Crowdsource community. To do so, we’ve put together our own “Oscars for hackers” – the Detectify Crowdsource Awards!
How the Detectify Crowdsource Awards work
The latest awards reflect our hackers’ achievements made during 2022. Our selection of awards, which we’ll take an in-depth look at below, are measured by a variety of factors: Some awards are based on whether the winner has up to a certain number of points, while others take the number and quality of submissions that the researcher has submitted into account.
We also have an award for individuals who have been exceptionally great to work with by using effective communication, being especially helpful, or consistently having a good attitude.
When it comes to the points mentioned above, here’s how they work:
- Every time a new vulnerability is found by a module, it produces a hit.
- Each hit results in points awarded to the researcher. Low severity vulnerabilities result in 1 earned point, medium vulnerabilities earn 10 points, high vulnerabilities earn 100 points, and critical vulnerabilities earn 500 points.
- Our team measures the points earned by our ethical hackers on a quarterly and annual basis, and we also keep tabs of our hackers’ total points. You can check out our current 2023 leaderboard here.
Without further ado, let’s recognize each of 2022’s award-winning Crowdsource hackers!
Leaderboard Leader
First up is our Leaderboard Leader award. This title goes to the Crowdsource ethical hacker who has collected the most points during the entire year. Coming in at the top of the leaderboard during 2022 was melbadry9, who managed to earn a whopping 77,229 points!
In addition to this win, melbadry9 also hit 100,000 all-time points – another significant achievement on its own. Congratulations!
Substantial Submitter
Our Substantial Submitter, awarded for earning the highest number of valid submissions, goes to Geekfreak! Coming in at 87 valid submissions during 2022, this accomplishment is no small feat.
Superiority Submitter
Attaining the highest submission validity ratio in 5 or more submissions earns one of our hackers the title of Superiority Submitter. During 2022, we were impressed with the quality of the submissions from none other than Peter Jaric, whose submissions resulted in a 71% validity ratio. Kudos, Peter!
Fabulous Feedbacker
Detectify Crowdsource wouldn’t be where it is today without the feedback and support of our community members. For their constant willingness to help, great attitude, and proactive activity in our internal channels, we’d like to recognize Gehaxelt as 2022’s Fabulous Feedbacker!
Significant Start
The Significant Start award goes to a Crowdsource researcher who accumulated the most valid submissions during their first month in the Crowdsource community. Hardik, who had six valid submissions during his first 30 days in the community, is the much-deserved winner of this title.
Serial Submitter
Our Serial Submitter is a Crowdsource hacker who has had at least one valid submission during each month of the year. For his great contributions that come in on a consistent basis, we’re proud to present Geekfreak with this award.
Bullseye Bughunter
The coveted title of Bullseye Bughunter goes to a researcher with a validity ratio of 100%. This is of course very difficult to achieve, so we didn’t have a contributor who fit this award’s criteria for 2022. We’ve got high hopes for next year!
Team Trophy
Rounding out the 2022 Detectify Crowdsource Awards is our Team Trophy. This is an especially notable award, since it’s a title that is voted on by Detectify’s internal researchers. It goes to a Crowdsource researcher who has been a strong communicator and reliable, high-quality submitter. During 2022, we had not one but two hackers that stood out to our team’s researchers: j0v and tengeez. Congrats to you both!
We’d like to thank each and every member of our Crowdsource community for their valuable submissions – the Detectify Crowdsource Awards are just a small token of our appreciation for the important work that you do.
