The Foundation Operation Jackal
INTERPOL has been spearheading a continuing, multi-year international law enforcement effort known as Operation Jackal to destroy West African organized crime syndicates, including the worldwide network known as Black Ax. Instead of concentrating on low-level street criminals, the worldwide effort tracks illegal financial flows and disrupts the operational infrastructure that allows business email hacking, romance scams, investment fraud, and complex money laundering operations spanning many continents. The effort intends to disrupt Crime-as-a-Service platforms, freeze illicit bank accounts, and seize high-value assets that fuel these syndicates by combining police forces, digital forensics teams, and specialist financial crime units across dozens of participating countries.
The Operational Breakdown
The operational breakdown, which was released on August 26, 2026, describes the results of Operation Jackal IV, an eight-month joint effort that took place in 22 nations between November 2025 and June 2026. It produced 263 key suspects and 58 arrests. 17 people were arrested after investigators in Argentina discovered a Crime-as-a-Service network of almost 200 people offering money laundering and dark web hosting services to West African gangs. Raids across Johannesburg, South Africa, yielded 39 arrests after authorities dismantled structured boiler room teams targeting English-speaking retirees with romance and investment schemes, seizing millions of dollars alongside hundreds of blocked bank accounts. Meanwhile, law enforcement in Romania shut down a call center operating an investment scam responsible for generating and laundering over one hundred million euros worldwide. Investigators also highlighted an alarming tactical shift, noting that these syndicates are increasingly leveraging social media to carry out targeted financial sextortion schemes against minors.
