According to the company’s annual fraud analysis, over the past five years, Apple has thwarted more than $9 billion in fraudulent transactions, with a staggering $2 billion prevented in 2024 alone.

In 2024, the App Review team meticulously evaluated over 7.7 million app submissions, rejecting nearly 1.9 million for failing to meet stringent standards on security, privacy, and user experience.

This includes over 400,000 rejections for privacy violations and 320,000 for spam or deceptive practices.

Comprehensive Fraud Prevention Strategies

Beyond initial reviews, Apple dismantled over 37,000 apps already on the platform for fraudulent activity and blocked 43,000 submissions with hidden malicious features.

The company also cracked down on account fraud by terminating 146,000 developer accounts and rejecting 711 million suspicious customer account creations, curbing potential threats before they could materialize.

Additionally, Apple’s vigilance extended outside its ecosystem, blocking over 4.6 million illicit app installations from unapproved sources and neutralizing 10,000 illegitimate apps on pirate storefronts laden with malware and pirated content.

In the realm of discovery fraud, Apple processed 1.2 billion ratings and reviews in 2024, purging 143 million fraudulent entries to maintain the integrity of its rankings.

This effort also saw 7,400 apps removed from charts and nearly 9,500 deceptive apps erased from search results, ensuring a fair competitive landscape for legitimate developers.

On the payment front, Apple’s security measures protected users from credit card fraud by identifying 4.7 million stolen cards and banning 1.6 million accounts from further transactions.

Technologies like Apple Pay and StoreKit, integrated into over 420,000 apps, enhance transactional safety with device-specific codes and end-to-end encryption, never storing card details on devices or servers, thus minimizing risks.
