Genea, an IVF provider with 21 locations nationally, has been caught up in a cyber attack, taking some of its systems and servers offline and confirming unauthorised data access.
The company said in a statement that it had been alerted to the attack “after identifying suspicious activity on our network”.
The incident appears to have been contained and restoration of systems is underway, but Genea said that its investigations had uncovered data access by an “unauthorised third party”.
“We are urgently investigating the nature and extent of data that has been accessed and the extent to which it contains personal information,” the company said.
“We acknowledge the importance that people place on their information, especially in this current environment.”
The company’s phone lines and app had been down for about five days prior to the cyber incident notification, according to its Instagram account.
Genea said that its clinics were experiencing “minimal disruption” and that staff were “working tirelessly” to maintain treatment schedules.
