Authorities in Warsaw have arrested three suspected hackers found carrying specialized FLIPPER hacking equipment. Other tools are allegedly intended to attack IT and telecommunications systems.
The suspects, all Ukrainian citizens aged 43, 42, and 39, were detained during a routine traffic stop in the Śródmieście district of the Polish capital.
The incident occurred on Senatorska Street, where officers from the Intelligence and Patrol Department stopped a Toyota sedan for inspection.
Traffic Stop Reveals Hacking Equipment
In addition to the driver, two passengers were in the vehicle. Police noted that all three men appeared visibly nervous.
During questioning, the men claimed they were “traveling around Europe”. They had entered Poland only a few hours earlier, with plans to continue to Lithuania. A detailed search of the car revealed a range of suspicious items.
Among the seized equipment were an advanced FLIPPER hacking device, a spy device detector, multiple antennas, laptops, routers, numerous SIM cards, portable hard drives, and cameras.
According to investigators, this gear could be used to interfere with strategic IT systems and break into computers. Telecommunications networks support serious criminal activities, including fraud and computer fraud.
The confiscated electronic equipment was transferred to specialists from the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime in Warsaw.
Although the data carriers were encrypted, cybercrime officers quickly secured and decoded key evidence. Property crime investigators later joined the case to analyze the suspects’ activities and intentions.
The three men were unable to explain why they possessed such specialized equipment convincingly.
They described themselves as IT specialists, but when asked more detailed questions, they reportedly pretended not to understand English.
Prosecutors allege the suspects obtained devices and computer programs adapted for committing crimes, including attempts to damage computer data of particular importance to national defense.
The Warsaw Śródmieście–Północ District Prosecutor’s Office requested pretrial detention, and the court approved a three‑month temporary arrest for all three suspects.
The investigation is ongoing, with police examining when and why the men entered Poland and whether they are linked to broader cyber operations across Europe.
Authorities emphasize that the case remains active and further charges or findings are possible as the digital evidence is thoroughly analyzed.
