Jake Braun, who led the team that created the first-ever Voting Machine Hacking Village at DEF CON, one of the world’s best-known hacker conferences, recently came on the Cybercrime Magazine Podcast.

Braun, a lecturer and senior advisor at The University of Chicago, is the author of “Democracy in Danger: How Hackers and Activists Exposed Fatal Flaws in the Election System” and has co-authored two award-winning and seminal works on election infrastructure cyber vulnerabilities.

A kegorator was hacked when Braun attended his first DEF CON in 2012, part of four days of mayhem, the way he remembers it. In 2016, there was a car hacking village at DEF CON. Walking down a local street that year, Braun conceived of the idea to have voting machines at the hacking convention. This turned out to be the genesis of the Voting Machine Hacking Village.
