Globally, cybercrime from AI and other sources of threats is projected to cost $10.5 trillion annually in 2025—a 250 percent increase from 2015.
WhoisXML API, a cyber threat intelligence company, has been observing a surge in bulk-registered new domains, and they believe that bulk registration could pave the way for massive attack infrastructures, as in the case of the nearly 300,000-domain strong Funnull scam infrastructure.
Hundreds of thousands of domains linked to cybercrime are operating in plain sight: One threat actor spent more than $1 million to register 500,000 algorithmically generated domains in 2024.
The FBI had to release a flash report in Apr. 2025, disseminating 42,000 phishing domains impersonating banks, government agencies, and more than 200 reputable organizations.
