Citrix Secure Access Client Flaw Let Attackers Execute Remote Code


Citrix has released security advisories for critical and high-severity vulnerabilities, which could allow threat actors to escalate their privileges if they have access to an endpoint with Standard user account permission.

There is a security vulnerability in the Windows Citrix Desktop client that exists in versions lower than Citrix 23.5.1.3. An attacker who is authenticated and has access to a Standard Endpoint can use this vulnerability to elevate their privileges to NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM.

This vulnerability is given a CVSS score of 7.8 (High). 

CVE-2023-24492: Citrix Secure Access for Ubuntu

A security flaw has been identified in versions of Ubuntu Citrix Secure Client older than 23.5.2. This flaw can be exploited by attackers to remotely run malicious code on a user’s device. They can achieve this by convincing the user to click on a malicious link and then accepting subsequent prompts.

This vulnerability has been mentioned as Critical with a CVSS score of 9.8. 

These two vulnerabilities were discovered by a security researcher Rilke Petrosky of F2TC Cyber Security.

Users of these products are recommended to upgrade to the latest versions to prevent exploitation.

Citrix Secure Clients has been used by many organizations worldwide to allow employees to log in to remote systems. Previously, Citrix vulnerability threat actors exploited CVE-2022-27518 in the Wild during December 2022. 

However, It has patched the critical vulnerability which allowed threat actors to execute remote arbitrary code in Gateways and Citrix ADC (Application Delivery Controllers).
