Anthropic’s Claude share links appeared in public search results, raising fresh privacy concerns for users who shared sensitive conversations.
A Reddit post this weekend revealed that hundreds of Claude AI shared chats were publicly discoverable through Google. Users searching queries such as site:claude.ai/share could access conversations containing legal advice, engineering work, and personal discussions without needing direct links from the original owners.
Claude’s share feature generates public URLs so users can send conversations to others. According to the Reddit thread, those pages lacked proper noindex tags. Once a link spread online via forums, social media, or accidental posts, search engines could crawl and index the full chat content.
Exposed chats reportedly included:
- Legal strategy discussions from lawyers
- Technical troubleshooting and code from engineers
- Personal and sensitive user conversations
The situation echoes earlier incidents with ChatGPT shared links, where public indexing similarly turned private exchanges into searchable pages.
By Sunday, Google results for the affected Claude share pages had largely disappeared. That suggests either rapid deindexing after the issue gained attention or a backend fix from Anthropic. The company had not issued a public statement at the time of reporting.
Security researchers and privacy-conscious users noted that removal from search results does not automatically mean old links are dead. Anyone who previously saved or bookmarked a share URL may still be able to open it unless Anthropic revokes access server-side.
Shared AI chats often contain more than casual questions. Professionals use tools like Claude for drafting contracts, debugging proprietary code, analyzing business data, and discussing personal matters.
When those pages become crawlable, the risk extends beyond embarrassment to potential data leakage, intellectual property exposure, and compliance issues.
Anthropic users are strongly advised to:
- Review all active shared conversations in Claude settings
- Delete any shares that are no longer needed
- Avoid posting share links in public channels
- Treat shared AI chats as potentially public by default
Until platforms consistently apply noindex, authentication gates, or expiring links, shared conversations should be handled with the same caution as documents posted to the open web.
