October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. CAM was established in 2004 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cybersecurity Alliance.
There are many reasons to raise awareness around the growing cyber threat. Chief among them is the cost of cybercrime to consumers, businesses and governments globally.
In the time it takes you to read this blog post, one minute for the average reader, cybercrime is predicted to cost the world $20.5 million, according to Cybersecurity Ventures.
If it were measured as a country, then cybercrime, predicted to cost the world $10.8 trillion USD (annually) in 2026, would be the world’s third largest economy after the U.S. and China.
This represents the greatest transfer of economic wealth in history, risks the incentives for innovation and investment, is exponentially larger than the damage inflicted from natural disasters in a year, and will be more profitable than the global trade of all major illegal drugs combined.
This October, the National Cybersecurity Alliance encourages you to make life more difficult for cybercriminals. If you listen, then it will lower your cybercrime bill!
