Cyware, vendor of agentic AI-powered operationalized threat intelligence and collective defense, announced it is supporting the research arm of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), the national trade association representing nearly 900 electric cooperatives with its Department of Energy (DOE) funded effort to expand OT monitoring across the electric sector.
“Information sharing within Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity can be challenging,” said Tom Stockmeyer, managing director government and critical infrastructure at Cyware. “While many organizations have made efforts to share OT threat information, the industry wants to improve. We look forward to supporting NRECA on this important initiative to improve community-wide automated access to high-value OT alerts between SOC teams of participating cooperatives.”
“A key goal at NRECA is to help rural electric cooperatives strengthen their cybersecurity standing through greater visibility, collaboration and shared intelligence,” said Adrian McNamara, principal cybersecurity program manager and ICS-REC project lead at NRECA. “This project is focused on standardizing the collection, correlation, and normalization of data from participating rural cooperatives to enable centralized analysis. By creating a common framework for analysis and information sharing, we will be able to provide more actionable insights back to the cooperative community which means faster threat detection, stronger coordination and a more resilient ecosystem.”
To date, participating utilities have reported measurable improvements in visibility, logging capabilities, and alerting. Looking ahead, the project will focus on closing the market gap for smaller, less-resourced utilities and enabling automatic sharing of validated findings with the broader community.
