Google CEO suggests AI Guardrails instead of 6 months pause

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has opposed the 6-month pause on the development of Artificial Intelligence technology and instead suggested the development of guardrails with the use of tech. Schmidt has a viewpoint that the pause will only benefit nations like China and expressed more concerns in an interview with ‘The Australian Financial Review’.

The ex-chairman who led the office between 2001 to 2011 said that America needs to draw a line between AI development, its usage, and the negative effects involved during and after the emerging technologies.

Probably referring to the apprehensions raised by other technologists such as Elon Musk over ChatGPT, Schmidt objected to the latest statement made by Steve Wozniak on putting a pause on AI labs that also puts a cap on the training-induced of AI systems.

Instead, the think tank wants technologists to work on development standards, as a short pause can instantly help China that is already devising AI-powered machines to replace humans in upcoming wars.

Interestingly, the statement from the ex-Google head comes just a week after the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP), a non-governmental organization’s president, Marc Rotenberg, issued a complaint-filled letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to issue a temporary ban on the development of large-scale commercial AI models by OpenAI.

NOTE 1 – Any technology, when used correctly and is purpose-driven to benefit mankind, is always welcome, and so are its related developments. But when it falls into the wrong hands, it can yield negative effects that can spell doomsday for this entire planet…. agree?

NOTE 2 – US President Joe Biden met with the leaders of the Council of Science and Technology on April 4th this year to discuss the merits and demerits over the opportunities created over AI development.
