In the latest cybersecurity update, the pro-Ukraine hacktivists group, Hdr0, has claimed to attack the Russian Red Cross website. The Hdr0 attack on Russian Red Cross website is being attributed to a retaliatory response against Russia’s military aggression aimed at the Ukrainian population.
The attack by the group on the Russian Red Cross website is a direct challenge to the recent “8 rules of hacktivism” released by the Red Cross, which the group has denounced in a message posted along with their dark web post.
In response to the concerning trend of civilian involvement in international conflicts, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has outlined eight rules for hacktivists and an additional four for states to discourage civilian participation in cyberattacks against other nations.
Hdr0 Attack on Russian Red Cross Website
Following the cyberattack, the Hdr0 group posted a message aimed at both the Red Cross and Russia, characterized by a strong expression of animosity.
In their message Translated from Russian to English, Hdr0 group has said, “There are no rules in war. And the Red Cross, which is smeared with the blood of our prisoners and the tears of our children, has no right to propose or establish anything. We will use every opportunity to inflict maximum damage on our enemy by any available means.”
The message further reads, “Don’t forget to support our warriors with donations, because they are the ones who bring closer what will eventually become our common cause. Victory over the f*****g h***e. Glory to Ukraine!”
At the time of writing this report, there was no update received from the Red Cross regarding the alleged Hdr0 attack on Russian Red Cross Website.
What is Hdr0
Hdr0 is a pro-Ukrainian Hacktivist group that consists of patriotic civilians who intend to plan cyberattacks on Russian organizations. East-West Digital News Quoted the Hdr0 in November 2022, “We aim to destroy Russian supply lines so that Russians can feel the war for themselves.”.
They have inflicted cyberattacks on various Russian organizations till now. Last year, in September they attacked the Russian energy service provider Mosoblenergo’s website and put up a picture of Oleksiy Danilov, a Ukrainian defence official with Kremlin on fire in the background.
Hdr0 have also previously attacked the Russian TV broadcasts and displayed a montage of 9/11 attacks on the digital channels. The 9/11 montage then subtly shifted to footage of Putin’s terror attacks all over Ukraine.
