Macquarie Cloud Services, part of Macquarie Technology Group, has signed a Microsoft Datacentre Optimisation (DCO) agreement aimed at increasing its customers’ use of Microsoft Azure over the next three years.
Microsoft is forecasting Macquarie Cloud Services’ Azure consumption spend will reach up to $278 million over that period, based on the provider’s roadmap and progress to date.
The agreement builds on work between the companies supporting Australian organisations migrating and modernising infrastructure on Azure, including hybrid cloud deployments.
Microsoft’s DCO program is a global initiative intended to help partners grow their Azure practices and support customers’ cloud transformation projects. Macquarie Cloud Services said this was its third DCO agreement with Microsoft, following six years holding Microsoft’s Expert MSP status.
Macquarie Cloud Services linked the deal to broader market and regulatory drivers, citing forecasts that Australia’s public cloud market could reach about A$220 billion by 2034, driven by AI adoption, cybersecurity programmes, systems modernisation, and frameworks affecting regulated sectors including APRA CPS 230 and CPS 234, the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act, and Essential Eight maturity expectations.

“By combining our capabilities with the DCO framework, we are enabling customers to move to Azure at scale, while building a foundation for data, AI, and next-generation applications that will ultimately drive the Australian economy,” said Naran McClung, Executive Head of Azure at Macquarie Cloud Services.
McClung said customer demand was increasingly being driven by organisations expanding into new workloads as their cloud maturity develops, as well as first-time migrations to Azure.
