Microsoft has acknowledged that the August 2025 security update—KB5063878—can cause significant performance degradation on both Windows 11, version 24H2, and supported Windows 10 releases.
The company’s Windows release health dashboard confirms reports of severe stuttering, lag, and choppy audio/video playback when using Network Device Interface (NDI) streaming in applications such as OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and NDI Tools.
According to Microsoft, affected users may experience these issues particularly when “Display Capture” is enabled on the source PC.
Even under low-bandwidth conditions, streams appear erratic, with dropped frames and audio desynchronization becoming commonplace.
Both home and enterprise users employing NDI for live video transfer between devices have reported that performance can degrade to the point of rendering streams unusable.
The problem was first identified following the rollout of the August 12, 2025 update for Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4946).
Microsoft marked the issue as “Confirmed” on August 21, 2025, after multiple customer support threads and telemetry data substantiated the slowdown.
The company stresses that while the update enhances overall security, it inadvertently affects the NDI receive mode, defaulting incorrectly to RUDP (Reliable User Datagram Protocol) and causing packet retransmissions under congested conditions.
To address the slowdown in streaming performance, Microsoft’s advisory recommends manually switching the NDI Receive Mode from RUDP to either TCP or UDP.
This workaround has proven effective in mitigating packet loss and reducing latency spikes. Users can adjust this setting through the NDI Tools configuration panel or their streaming application of choice.

Microsoft has assured customers that engineering teams are actively investigating the root cause. The development team aims to include a permanent fix in an upcoming cumulative update.
No timeline has been provided for the resolution, but Microsoft has committed to updating the Windows release health page as progress is made.
While the NDI streaming issue has garnered the most attention, the August 2025 patch also initially caused secondary issues in enterprise environments.
Early adopters deploying the update via WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) encountered installation failures with error 0x80240069. That error was promptly resolved and is no longer impacting patch deployment.
IT administrators and individual users are encouraged to monitor the Windows Update settings page for the resolved status of these issues.
In the interim, those reliant on NDI streaming are advised to implement the workaround to maintain broadcast-quality performance.
Microsoft recommends verifying updates and consulting the Windows release health portal for any new developments or additional known issues.
Despite the streaming slowdown, the August security update remains a critical defense against emerging threats.
