Microsoft Teams Leverages AI Workflows with Microsoft 365 Copilot for Task Automation

Microsoft is rolling out AI Workflows in the Teams Workflows app, bringing intelligent automation capabilities powered by Microsoft 365 Copilot to help users streamline daily operations and automate complex tasks.

The feature uses scheduled Copilot prompts through predefined templates, making setup easier for users looking to enhance productivity through automation.

Availability and Rollout Timeline

AI Workflows will be available exclusively to users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The rollout began with Targeted Release in late September 2025, completing by early October 2025.

For General Availability worldwide, deployment started in late January 2026 and is expected to finish by mid-February 2026, as reported by Microsoft.

The feature supports Teams for Web and Mac platforms, with the rollout timeline having been updated from the initially planned mid-October to late October 2025 timeframe.

The new capability introduces workflow templates that leverage scheduled Copilot prompts to interact with user data and automate routine tasks.

Users can access these templates directly from the Workflows app homepage in Teams, where they will find various AI-powered automation options designed to simplify complex workflows.

The templates are pre-configured to reduce setup time while providing intelligent automation capabilities.

Configuration and Admin Controls

The AI Workflows feature is disabled by default and requires administrators to enable the Workflows app in Microsoft Teams for users to access it.

Organizations wanting to adopt this capability should familiarize themselves with Copilot scheduled prompts and enable the Workflows app through Teams admin settings.

Administrators who prefer to disable this feature have control options available. Using Cloud Policy, admins can set the “Allow the use of additional optional connected experiences in Office” policy to Disabled, which will also disable scheduled prompts in Microsoft 365 Copilot.

This admin control ensures organizations can manage the feature according to their compliance and security requirements.

From a compliance perspective, this update introduces scheduled Copilot prompts that interact with user data to automate workflows, providing end users with new ways of engaging with generative AI through predefined workflow templates.

Organizations should review their data handling policies and ensure alignment with their governance frameworks before enabling the feature.
