NSA offers tips to safeguard home networks from cyber attacks

National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States has issued some tips to safeguard home networks from cyber attacks and they are as follows:

.)   Always use the latest operating systems, browsers and applications that are updated with regular security patches. As such, environments cut down the vulnerability risks by 60%.

.)   Keep the router updated with regular patches as it acts as a connecting gateway to link your device with the world wide web network. And if the router reaches its end-of-life please replace it with the latest that has update policies in an active state.

.)   Better to differentiate your home and office devices as well as networks. As it helps in keeping the Wi-Fi networks from getting contaminated with malware, when office devices become prime targets.

.)   Never ever use the same router access password for other online services and see that the password is unique and complex and contains at least 14 characters. Having an 18-character password that is a mixture of alpha-numeric characters mixed with special characters makes complete sense. Also, do not store the password in text form on the device as it can lead to digital theft.

.)   Always keep your device loaded with a security software, as it helps nip the existing cyber threats like spyware and mining tools at bay.

.)   Never click on email links or attachments sent from strangers, as it can lead to malicious infections.

.)   Since most hackers use various social media platforms as hunting grounds to conduct attacks, avoid posting of personal info such as phone numbers, addresses, employment details and DOBs.

.)   Avoid using public Wi-Fi systems and instead use the hotspot feature in your 4G or 5G mobile as they are more secure.
