Microsoft has addressed a significant issue affecting users of classic Outlook on devices running Windows 11, version 24H2.
After installing recent Windows updates, including the January 2025 non-security preview update (KB5050094) and the February 11, 2025 update (KB5051987), many users reported being unable to drag and drop emails or calendar items into folders.
This disruption caused frustration among users who rely heavily on this functionality for managing their workflow.
Affected Updates and Systems
The problem emerged after installing the following updates:
- KB5050094: Released January 28, 2025 (OS Build 26100.3037)
- KB5051987: Released February 11, 2025 (OS Build 26100.3194)
The issue specifically impacted systems running Windows 11, version 24H2, and classic Outlook. Microsoft acknowledged the problem and began working on a resolution.

On February 25, 2025, Microsoft released a fix as part of the latest cumulative update for Windows 11, version 24H2. The update, KB5052093 (OS Build 26100.3323), resolves the drag-and-drop functionality issue in Outlook. Users are encouraged to install this update to restore normal operations.
For those unable to immediately install the February update, Microsoft provided a workaround to mitigate the issue:
- Open Outlook and select the File tab.
- Navigate to Options.
- Under the General tab, locate User interface options.
- Change the setting from “Optimize for compatibility” to “Optimize for best appearance.”
This temporary adjustment restores drag-and-drop functionality until users can apply the latest update.
Microsoft continues to monitor feedback and encourages users to keep their systems updated with the latest patches to ensure optimal performance and security.
