QBE Insurance Group's CSO moves to Microsoft

QBE Insurance Group’s chief security officer Andrew Dell has left after over six-and-a-half years at the firm, and has since taken up a role at Microsoft.

Dell disclosed his departure, which occurred at the end of February, in a LinkedIn post.

His new role is general manager of the customer security management office (CSMO) for Asia Pacific at Microsoft.

“After spending the bulk of my career securing organisations, this role gives me the opportunity to support and impact a huge number of organisations and services,” Dell wrote.

“I’ve long partnered with Microsoft as a customer and am passionate about the opportunity to now take those insights to support how we think about ensuring we continue to meet the evolving security needs of ourselves and our customers.”

QBE has named Jim Christianson as its interim group chief security officer while a permanent replacement is being sought.

A QBE spokesperson told iTnews the company is “grateful for Andrew [Dell’s] many contributions to the business” in his time leading cyber security.

The group CSO leads global cyber and information security strategy and reports to QBE’s group executive of technology and operations, Ian Fantozzi, who joined QBE in early 2025, replacing Matt Mansour.
