A ransomware attack allegedly carried out by the RansomEXX Group has reportedly affected the IT services of over 300 small banks in India, disrupting digital transactions such as RTGS and NTFS for the past three days. The breach targeted C-Edge Technologies, a tech firm that provides services to numerous small banking institutions primarily in North India.

The Reserve Bank of India, which oversees financial institutions in the region, has yet to release an official statement. However, it has promised to issue regular updates once its security experts have conducted a thorough investigation into the incident. C-Edge Technologies, a joint venture between Tata Consultancy Services and the State Bank of India, is currently focused on recovering encrypted data and applications and has indicated it will not yield to the attackers’ demands.

In other news, a file-encrypting malware attack has hit ‘OneBlood,’ a Florida-based blood donation organization that supports over 350 hospitals across four states: Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, and one additional state. The attack compromised OneBlood’s software system, forcing the organization to manually record details related to blood tests, donations, and distribution.

This incident follows a recent attack by the Qilin ransomware gang on NHS England, which led to a significant blood shortage for surgeries and transfusions, with recovery taking approximately 22 days.

Additionally, a new report from Zscaler ThreatLabz reveals that a company( name withheld) paid $75 million in ransom to Dark Angeles, a rebranded version of the Babuk Ransomware group, to regain access to its encrypted database. The report highlights the presence of over 391 ransomware gangs operating between January 2023 and May 2024. Further details are expected.
