The Raspberry Pi Foundation has unveiled a new addition to its popular single-board computer lineup – the Raspberry Pi 5 2GB model, priced at an affordable $50. This latest offering continues the foundation’s mission to make high-performance computing accessible to a wider audience.
The new 2GB variant is built on a cost-optimized D0 stepping of the BCM2712 application processor. This updated chip eliminates unused “dark silicon” functionality present in the original C1 stepping, reducing manufacturing costs without compromising performance.
From a user perspective, the D0 stepping is functionally identical to its predecessor, featuring the same quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, VideoCore multimedia capabilities, and PCI Express bus.

Key specifications of the Raspberry Pi 5 2GB model include:

The reduced RAM capacity, combined with the cost savings from the new chip stepping, allows for the $10 price reduction compared to the 4GB model. This new model maintains compatibility with existing Raspberry Pi 5 accessories and cases. It also retains the overclocking capabilities of its higher-memory siblings.
