TikTok is back up in the US after Trump says he will extend deadline

TikTok is back up in the United States after Trump announced today that he would extend a 90-day deadline for the company to find a U.S. purchaser.

After the Supreme Court unanimously voted to allow a TikTok ban to proceed, the social media company shut down access in the U.S. late Saturday night.

Today, Trump announced that he would sign an executive order tomorrow that extends the deadline for TikTok to find a U.S. purchaser and that companies would not face any liability in allowing access to the app.

Hours later, TikTok resumed its service in the U.S., thanking Trump for the help.

“Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!”, reads a welcome back message in the TikTok app.

While the app now works for existing users, it is still unavailable in the Google and Apple app stores, making it unavailable to install on new devices.

If Trump issues the executive order tomorrow, TikTok will still have to find a U.S. buyer or face being banned once again.

In a post to Truth Social on Sunday morning, Trump suggested that the U.S. take 50% ownership of the company with another purchaser buying the rest.
