U.S.-Russia Cybersecurity Relations. What CISOs Should Know.

When it comes to the cyber-threat landscape, Russian actors are usually portrayed as the bogeymen, according to technology journalist Phil Muncaster, in a recent post on his blog.

Over the past few months and years, a disturbing picture has started to emerge. A different breed of hacker has stepped out of the shadows – technically proficient, native-English speaking, and with an almost nihilistic penchant for violence and human misery.

Sometimes described as “The Com” or “Scattered Spider”, these loosely associated grassroots groups defy easy categorization. The question is, with the likes of M&S, MGM Resorts, and Santander among their growing list of victims, how big a threat do they pose to CISOs.

Muncaster recently joined host Heather Engel on the Cybercrime Magazine Podcast to discuss U.S.-Russia cybersecurity relations, the possibility of a detente, and what CISOs across the industry should know.
